L´invecciamento cutaneo o skin ageing è la conseguenza di fattori estrinseci, come il photoageing determinato da ripetute esposizioni ai raggi Uv, e intrinseci, quali l´invecchiamento cellulare e lo stress ossidativo.Le alterazioni interessano le strutture cutanee sia a livello epidermico, che dermico; esse sono apprezzabili clinicamente solo quando marcate, mentre possono essere identificate precocemente grazie a diverse metodiche quali Oct, microscopio multifotone, ma soprattutto microscopio laser confocale.

Skin ageing is the consequence of extrinsic (chronic ultraviolet exposure) and intrinsic insults (as cellular ageing, mutations of mitochondrial Dna and oxidative stress). The main changes involve all cutaneous structures in dermis and epidermis. Clinical examination can determine the level of skin ageing only in presence of evident changes, instead other non invasive technologies, such as optical coherence tomography (Oct), multi photon tomography and in particular reflectance confocal microscopy (Rcm) can detect early the subclinical alteration.
