The confocal laser scanning microscopy is a noninvasive, non-bloody and painless method for a high-resolution in vivo diagnosis of skin changes. On a screen the dermatologist may observe a horizontal histology slide of the skin's intact tissue at cellular resolution. The imaging is based on the reflection of a laser focused on the different skin layers. In many advanced practices and hospitals this method has been established to optimize the dermatologic diagnosis. Many studies about actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma and melanocytic tumors highlight a high specificity and sensitivity with the digital dermatologic-diagnostic confocal laser scanning microscopy. Given to the integrated and sophisticated training program and excellent continuous study program, every dermatologist may learn this method. The latest German "AWMF" guideline "Confocal laser scanning microscopy in dermatology" exists since July 2011.

Die konfokale Laserscanmikroskopie ist eine nichtinvasive, unblutige und schmerzfreie Methode zur hochauflösenden In-vivo-Diagnostik von Hautveränderungen in Echtzeit. Auf einem Bildschirm erhält der Dermatologe einen histologischen Horizontalschnitt des intakten Hautgewebes in zellulärer Auflösung. Die Bildgebung erfolgt durch die Reflektion eines in unterschiedlichen Hautschichten fokussierten Laserstrahls. In vielen fortschrittlichen Hautarztpraxen und Kliniken hat sich die Methode zur Optimierung der dermatologischen Diagnostik bereits fest etabliert.Zahlreiche Studien zu aktinischen Keratosen, Basalzellkarzinomen und melanozytären Tumoren haben eine hohe Spezifität und Sensitivität für das bildgebende dermatologisch-diagnostische Verfahren der konfokalen Laserscanmikroskopie gezeigt. Aufgrund eines ausgefeilten Schulungssystems und sehr guter Frotbildungsangebote ist die Methode für jeden Dermatologen erlernbar. Die aktuelle AWMF Leitlinie "Konfokale Lasermikroskopie in der Dermatologie" existiert seit Juli 2011 (1).
